Almost everyday I get asked by parents to be the bad guy and tell their children not to eat sweets. But we all know even if I tell them not to, they are not gonna listen to that. So here are a few tips that may help to not disappoint your children and also maintain their oral health:
- Milk and nutty chocolates are always better than caramel, and sticky candy. Candy that sticks to your teeth are the worst. So when in doubt, stick to chocolate.
- Instead of Sugary drinks give milkshakes in different flavours. Having a 4 year old myself, I know how much they love fruity but giving a strawberry shake is definitely the better option.
- The best is ofcourse natural fruit. So if you’re making desert, use fresh fruits, peanut butter and coconut are also yum additives to deserts.
- Whatever it is you give your kids, always rinse or dry brush to remove it from the teeth. Making your child drink water right after also helps.
Monitoring sugar consumption is just one part of great oral health. If you want your children to have healthy teeth, regular dental checkups are extremely important.
